Paragon Group

Established in October 1997, Paragon is a renowned internationally-active African design business based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Paragon’s work is driven by passion for the process of architecture, and a respect for technology and all it offers as the enabling connector between architecture and other design disciplines. These factors underpinned the development of the new website, launched in May 2017, which centred around showcasing Paragon’s extensive and iconic portfolio, and furthering relationships with clients, the media, and prospective employees.

Solid Green Consulting

Solid Green Consulting is a dynamic young company leading the way and driving future innovation in the African green building movement. Since January 2016, we have worked in close collaboration with the Solid Green team to generate extensive coverage through media engagement, feature articles, media releases, and an effective digital marketing campaign.

Activate Architecture

Activate Architecture creates high performance buildings with imaginative, intelligent and sustainable solutions, based on each client’s specific needs and context. The firm has grown steadily since its inception in 1998, with a focus on building a team of home-grown talent. Our ongoing campaign includes all aspects of digital communication and media engagement.

GreenED

GreenED is an online resource that offers professionals and students live webinars, courses and learning material on sustainable design in the built environment and green rating certifications. GreenED provides a platform for continuous, relevant, on-demand educational material that is offered both sustainably and efficiently. Apex has partnered with GreenED on all aspects of web design and development, technical administration, digital marketing and communications since the programme’s inception in 2016.

ArchitectureZA 2018

Architecture ZA is Africa’s premier urban cultural festival focused on architecture and is structured to target the largest possible audience of architectural professionals, students, the wider built environment and design fraternities, and interested members of the public. Since its launch in 2010, the event has become a significant national multi-disciplinary design symposium. Our comprehensive campaign for the 2018 event included all aspects of digital marketing, stakeholder liaison and media engagement.

I came to know Karen Eicker from Apex Communications, during the months leading up to the Architecture ZA (AZA18) – Africa’s premier architecture conference that has grown and developed since its registration in 2010. While the primary host for the event is the South African Institute for Architecture (SAIA), the University of Pretoria (UP) was the co-host in 2018. As such, I acted on behalf of the UP to determine the theme and curate the content of the event. I therefore got to work very closely with Karen over the course of the build-up to the event and during the event itself. The quality of the campaign she ran was absolutely outstanding. She understood the content immediately and with great insight, carefully constructed the type of information sent out to cater to a diverse audience. Through media liaison, e-marketing and social media channels, she created a visually engaging, well-written and attention-grabbing campaign. Within a very short period of time, she met and even exceeded our expectations in terms of deliverables. I appreciate consistency in the quality of marketing of the event, her reliability and, overall, I found in Karen a person who takes responsibility and is pro-active. I believe these are rare qualities. Without a doubt, her contribution resulted in the overall success in attendance of the conference.

Our ongoing campaign for PentaFloor includes all aspects of marketing and media engagement.

Africa Architecture Awards 2017

The Africa Architecture Awards seek to celebrate design excellence and promote an increased awareness of the role and importance of architecture across Africa. Based on values rather than categories, the awards seek to honour established architects and encourage emerging and future voices. As part of a larger communications team, Apex conducted a series of feature articles and interviews with stakeholders and leading architects from around Africa, to assist with creating dialogue and publicity around the Awards.

Award Submissions 2017

During late 2016 and early 2017, Apex undertook two award submission processes and entries for the new Johannesburg Council Chamber on behalf of the Joburg Property Company (JPC), managers of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) property portfolio. Both submissions were successful, with the Chamber winning the ‘Best Public Services Development South Africa’ award for Africa & Arabia in the International Property Awards and winning the ‘Other Developments’ category of the South African Property Owners’ Association (SAPOA) Awards 2017.

Architect Africa Film Festival

First held with acclaimed achievement in 2007, the AAFF was created to celebrate architecture; provide a platform for debate and communication among built environment stakeholders; provide a cultural tool for capacity building and education; and create a broader public awareness of the developmental issues facing growing cities. The ongoing AAFF campaign includes all aspects of web design and development, administration of online film submissions, print and digital communications, and event organisation.

Architect Africa Network

Established in 2000, Architect Africa is an autonomous built environment news and information aggregator & broadcasting network committed to driving sustainability through the effective and responsible use of media and information resources. Work on this flagship product includes extensive ongoing technical design, development and construction.

South African City Futures

City Futures aims to encourage South African cities and their constituent neighbourhoods to start visualising the futures of urban neighbourhoods towards 2030 through research, co-creation and visualisation. Our work on this highly collaborative endeavour included full web design and development services.

South African Informal City

The South African Informal City Project (Exhibition, Seminar and Book) focuses on pioneering projects throughout South Africa, in centres that are at the heart of urban migration. The Exhibition was one of the Technical Site Visits offered by the Local Government Programme during the United Nations Seventeenth Conference of Parties held in Durban in 2011 (COP17). The event’s success helped to secure sponsors’ commitment to publishing this work as a book and digital exhibition.

Enviro Conscious Technologies

Specialists in recycling and treating domestic waste water, with a mission to securing sustainable, hygienic and economically viable sanitation for all, Enviro Conscious Technologies (ECT) is committed to creating new jobs within local companies and rural communities, and training and skills transfer for the upkeep of sanitation plants. Apex provided media consultancy and writing and editing services to ECT at a critical stage in the company’s journey.
